DBMM at Cancon 2010

The Society of Australian Ancients Wargamers (SAAW) is supporting a number of Ancients Competitions at Cancon 2010, including De Bellis Magistrorum Militum (DBMM). This tournament is being run subject to sufficient players entering.


DE BELLIS MAGISTRORUM MILITUM (DBMM) 15mm Ancients Competition



Playing Conditions
*   The DBMM tournament will consist of four (4) rounds, two rounds per day starting at 9.00am and 1.30pm, on the Saturday 23 January and Sunday 24 January.
*   One army list only to be used.
*   The competition is open list. You may select your army from DBMM List Books 1 to 3 AND, if published by 1 December 2009, DBMM List Book 4. NOTE: If DBMM List Book 4 is unpublished by 1 December 2009, you should instead use the draft Book 4 lists available on 1 December 2009. If you can?t obtain a copy of the draft Book 4 lists, please contact the organiser.
*   Armies are to be a maximum of 400 AP with an additional 10 AP for Stratagems ONLY (you may also use some of the 400 AP for Stratagems) and must be dated between 3000BC and 1500AD.
*   Rules: DBMM v1.0, unless v1.1 is released by 1 December 2009, in which case v1.1 will be used. Players should note the Umpire will base his decisions on the published rules plus the commentary available from http://www DOT dbmm DOT org DOT uk. If you cannot access this site, again please contact the organiser. (Barritus - okay, that's this site, but I've included it for completeness)
*   Scoring will be as per the published rules.
*   All figures must be appropriately based, painted and accurately depict the troops they represent. Figures are to be based for 15mm scale (i.e. 40mm frontage).
*   Terrain, Weather, Time of Day; as per the published rules.
*   Game duration is 3 hours 30 minutes, plus a small amount of random time, ending instantly time is called.
*   You should achieve a minimum of 12 pairs of bounds, and deployment (including all pre-game preparations) should not exceed 40mins. If either player requests, blitz rules will be applied to ensure a minimum of 12 bounds are played.
*   Draw will be by army date in round 1, and modified Swiss Chess after that. Players will not be drawn against travelling players from the same state for the first two rounds. NOTE: If required, ACT players may be drawn against other ACT players in the first two rounds.
*   Dice will be provided to each table by the organiser.
*   Players are to provide their own terrain.
*   Table sizes 6' by 4' (standard).

How-To-Enter the DBMM Championship
You can only enter the DBMM championship by;
(1)   Sending an entry form with payment to the CANCON CGS organisers and,
(2)   Lodging a list directly with the SAAW List Checker by the deadline Friday 2nd January.
Late submissions will be penalized by public display of army list at the venue.

Submitting Army Lists
Army lists must be submitted in a legible format, clearly identifying all options relevant to the composition of your army such as; exact date, race/nationality (eg. Spartan), geographical region (e.g. Galerius' Eastern army) and/or commander (eg. Attila, Duke William). Also include climate and aggression factor.

Your army list must be submitted with the following;
(1)   Complete summary of all troop types using correct descriptions, individual points values and an overall summation of points that does not exceed 400 AP, with an additional 10 AP for stratagems. Identify all double based elements.
(2)   Include a breakdown by commands with allocation of all elements including baggage (inc. type of baggage), the total morale equivalents, disheartening, demoralisation and shattering level for each command. Include the same for the whole army as well.

Lists failing to provide the above details will be returned for resubmission. Once an army list has been submitted it may not be changed or altered other than to correct any errors discovered by the list checker. The list checker?s decision is final. If using email, please include your list as an attached spreadsheet or text file. We do not use DBMw software. If mailing an army list to the postal address below, in case of problems please ensure that you include either an e-mail or postal address, or a mobile phone number where you can be SMS-ed.

Prizes:   Individual trophies to be awarded to 1st, 2nd & 3rd placings. Prizes will also be awarded to the Best Novice and the Players? Player.
There will be a prize, donated by Mr Ross Dawe, awarded to the FoG, DBMM, BBDBA or Warrior player judged to have provided the most impressive terrain.

Folks

As we're now into December, I can confirm two things about the DBMM competition which will be held at Cancon next year:

1. The rules to be used will be version 1.0 with Commentary; and

2. The latest draft version of DBMM List Book 4 will be used as published on the DBMM email list on 9 October 2009.
