Title: Difficult Terrain not so Tough for Blades?
Post by: Blathergut on October 28, 2007, 01:27:07 PM
Am I missing something, or are blades pretty much effective in difficult going?  I see they take a -1, but that's still going to keep them even with Ax.  Am I missing any other disadvantages?  Seems a Roman army doesn't mind the woods of Gaul too much...

Hi,

I'm afraid that your question and mine (see previous and posterior topics) are not interesting enough to be answered in this forum  :-[. I will try to answer you, but I'm not a wise man here. For what I know the only additional disadvantage is losing rear support while in difficult terrain. There may be other tricks hidden amongst the rules, but I don't know them yet, sorry.  :-\

Would you try to answer my questions?  ;)

Thank you

One other is the way in which they move through - often this will be in column

although same is true for other troops other than Ps

Can't think of any others

I think the answer is that you are right. Bd are actually rather good terrain troops in DBMM. In DBM Ax would be able to beat Bd in rough terrain and be equal to them in difficult. In DBMM Bd are the equal of Ax in any terrain.

I assume this was intentional by Phil but am not sure of the reasoning.

Even if you get the Blade into the difficult terrain in a column - wouldn't you be hampered getting out of that formation?  I believe you would need to make a whole series of single element moves with a reduced movement distance to present some sort of frontage.  That could be very expensive and very slow.....
