Same AP, same ME. In the Medieval Scandinavian list, I can have 2-5 Ps(S) and 0-4 Ax(O). Ax can stop marching, but (S) foot are useful in a fight. which way would you go?

With the small numbers you can take,i would go for the Ps(S),as they don't pursue. :)

I agree with Les, but for a different reason - they can move as groups (wider than columns) through difficult terrain. Probably not a significant advantage when the numbers are small, but it'll make it easier for you to outfight an opponent in one piece of difficult terrain.

With the small numbers, is there a reason not to take both? :)
Ps(S) are supreme in difficult going, but as you say Ax(O) are very useful for being able to deploy out wide and stop marching. As 0.5ME troops, they are also relatively expendable.
5 Ps(S) is OK in terrain, but 5 Ps(S) and 4 Ax(O) together is likely to be able to force the issue somewhere.
