Title: Dice allocation for ambushers
Post by: landmeister on January 27, 2012, 10:10:28 AM
An ambushed command dices independently until moved, discovered, etc. But does a regular subgeneral use a different coloured dummie? If I want to ambush my fourth regular subgeneral, I don't want to use 4 dice with the same colour. According to the rules, this is not possible. Was this the intention in 2.0?

Thank you in advance.

I presume it's a bug - there is no sane reason that a regular ambusher or flank-marcher's PIP die should be distinguishible from a dummy when an irregular isn't.

I agree. So how would you play it?  Using a different colour dummie untill I choose to show them up? Does that same dummie become a "regular" dice at that same moment? Wouldn't it be cheesy?  :-[ :-\

Locally we've been using different-coloured dice for regular generals when dicing independently, switching to same-coloured ones when allocation takes effect.

If I were bringing an army to a competition where I expected the issue to come up, I guess I'd try and talk it through with the umpire first.

I think it's a good solution. Certainly this is a point to be included in the Commentary.
