Visibility
« on: October 14, 2007, 04:28:23 PM »
Dear all,

I've seen a curious effect on visibility of troops on a hill. No one can see them from the flat if not within the 180? arc of visibility downhill, but you can see them from everywhere just being within 80 p away, no matter the angle. Could anyone explain the logic behind that? I understand why they can see and be seen when they?re close, but why are they suddenly invisible if you are at a 181? position?

Thank you.

If you are not in the downhill arc then then the curvature of the hill will prevent you seeing or being seen round the hill. If you are on the plain below then you can see them.

I can understand that, but this assumes that hills are prefectly rounded. This is a contradiction as Phils specifies that terrain features must be realistically defined. This means that certain hills (the most irregular ones) are NOT homogeneously rounded. Do you take this into consideration when calculating this arc?

Thank you.

No. I imagine that could get very open to interpretation, so that its probably a better solution to have an approximate solution. Otherwise you would be working out lines of sight around the hills.
