This was noticed as an MIA rule from DBM before the DBMM comp at Britcon. For the Britcon tournament we played as per DBM but there was nothing certain to base this on.
The DBMM comentary seems to allow an unlimited amount of jinking to avoid obstacles as it states that a single element can deviate and that as long as it ends within it's move distance of where it started then it's fine. There is a second point listed as a "suggested playing convention" that states that at no point should an element be more than it's move away from where it started.
My feeling is that this clarification may well be open to some serious exploitation.
