New Irregular Ineptness Rules
« on: December 04, 2009, 11:01:49 PM »
Hopefully an easy question on the new irregular ineptness rules.

Lets say I have a column of irregular Knights, being lead by an Irregular General.  If the column moves in a direction other than straight ahead (but still as a column) how many PIPs does this cost?  I have my own thoughts on this but would a like other opinions.

The relevant rule from page 27 : "1 extra PIP is expended....if a land....group includes any irregulars other than....(iii) a general's element, and any element moves other than straight ahead, unless....following another in a column."

Thanks, Andrew

1. Does the group (of Irr Kn + General) include irregulars other than light troops, Cv(O) or a general's element? Yes - the Irr Kn.
2. Does any element, not following another in column, move other than straight ahead? Yes - the general.

+1 PIP for Irregular Ineptness methinks (although I suspect the intention of the changed wording was to remove this penalty - I think this question was asked under the 1.0 rules where a regular element was leading a column of irregulars, Ax through DGo IIRC, and we determined the penalty applied at that time).

Cheers,
Ivan.

I agree that this method makes sense.  To claim the penalty doesn't apply on the basis the General is exempt is, shall we say, a stretch....

THis is the correct interpretation and the intended one.

It only makes a difference when you have a long column so it takes several moves for the kink to work its way out of the back of the column. You pay +1 for the move in which the front element wheeled. You don't pay +1 PIP for each following move in which the front element goes straight ahead, but other elements wheel as they reach the kink. Previously you had to pay +1 PIP for each move.

Thanks, Lawrence. Now I remember  :P about the "straightening out" with irregulars issue. Cheers, Ivan.
