DBMM at Cancon 2011
« on: January 04, 2011, 04:26:24 AM »
The DBMM competition at Cancon, held at EPIC in Canberra over the long weekend of 22-24 January 2011 is shaping up to be the best one for some years with 16 players now registered, and several others likely to attend.

Competition entries can be made via the online registration at http://www.cgs.asn.au/cancon2011.shtml

Please note the deadline for army lists has been extended to 9 January, so you still have a few days people.

From the Oz_Ancients email list:

Fantastic weekend - 21 players eventually made it, and a special mention has to be made of the sterling efforts by the Queenslanders to make it despite the floods which blocked roads and closed airports, resulting in a 175 mile drive from Rockhampton to Mackay, to catch a flight to Canberra.

The last round came down to a tense battle between Russell pere and Russell fils, with a hard fought 13-12 allowing Karl Hamlyn to sneak past for top place.

Final results were adjusted to give players receiving the Bye, the average of their other games.

Other prizes awarded were for sportsmanship to Jon Willacy, who had an extraordinarily bad run of luck, borne with really good grace, and the Team Prize to the Rockvegas boys from Rockhampton.

(State Team winners were not awarded as the relevant team captains didn't get it together to tell me who was in their team!)

*And special mention to the Sea Peoples, who not only punched above their weight, but were probably the most amazing looking set of figures created by Dave Brown of Evil Gong Miniatures, including some absolutely Heath Robinson contraptions as Chariots. I didn't find time to take pictures, but I really hope someone managed to get shots of these!

Final results were as follows:

Karl Hamlyn IV/82 French Ordonance 82
Zac Russell II/80 Hunnic 78
Greg Russell II/7 Later Achaemenid Persian 74
Rod Somerville II/32 Later Carthaginian 72
Chris Cameron II/82 Later Visigothic 61
Doug Melville IV/30 Teutonic Orders 60
Dave Brown I/28 Sea-Peoples 58
Wayne Power II/56 Early Imperial Roman 57
Ian Baxendell II/83 Patrician Roman (West) 55
Richard Cornwell IV/60 Catalan Company 50
Ian Thompson III/52 East Frankish 49
Tim Montgomery/Nick Rogers IV/13 Medieval German 49
Dave Turner II/73 Old Saxon, Frisian, Bavarian, Thuringian or Early Anglo-Saxon 49
Peter Barrett II/12 Alexandrian Macedonian 43
Phil Bradley II/74 Palmyran 40
Paul Turner II/19 Selucid 36
Dave Quilty I/22 New Kingdom Egyptian 33
Gerry Fallon II/7 Later Achaemenid Persian 33
Brad Cook/Darren Addison III/27 Rushtuni Armenian 33
Darryl Hills II/53 Ancient British 15
Jon Willacy I/22 New Kingdom Egyptian 0

A lot of interest was shown by other players there, and hopefully this weekend's visitors will be back for Winter-Con in Canberra in June (wrap up warm boys!), and a few more DBMM players come out of the woodwork.

regards

Doug

Scoring 0 points is quite a feat. Did the guy who came last actually turn up ?

Yes, Jon did turn up. He is a great guy to play. His dice just sucked.
