More PIP allocation
« on: December 08, 2007, 10:58:26 AM »
Dear all,

I have more doubts about PIP allocation on regular armies. What happens when the "highest" command's dice can't be allocated? My highest dice was broken so I had to draw separetedly. My other two commands had to be allocated a new "highest" dice and a new "second" dice. Suddenly, my "lowest" one simply dissapeared. I mean that throwing two dice while having three dice categories changes the concepts "highest", "second highest" and "lowest". How do you play it?

Thank you.

Hi,

Well, I'm not sure.

If you have 3 dice allocated, and the "highest" is broken, the "lowest" still gets allocated and the "middle" one gets the other one.

If you had averaged the two lowest, then the still get averaged.

If you had averaged the two highest, then the lowest still gets the lowest dice, the highest has to dice separately, and the middle gets the left over dice! Which just happens to be the highest!

I think you have to think of it as allocating "roles" to the commands, which you try to keep as the battle progresses.

I see. There was no averaging in my commands. All of them had different "roles". The question is, am I changing this roles for free (no three PIPs spent nor brilliant strike) when the "middle" dice now becomes the highest?  ???

Hi,

Well, Phil does write "Highest, then next highest, etc...", so after allocating the lowest, the second is the "next highest" in sequence.....

In some cases reality must assert itself. Just because a command is broken, doesn't mean that suddenly another command can't be allocated a dice. It _has_ to be allocated a dice. Since you have only one dice left (after giving one command the lowest) it pretty much follows that the second dice has to be given the other command.

And since you haven't actually changed the orders, it doesn't cost 3 PIPs. Even if you had it!

Another example is that the rules don't mention what to do if you throw the same number on both dice. One isn't lower than the other. But it is obvious what we should do.....

Hope this helps.

I see. In essence, I can say that the roles haven't changed, they simply fit the new situation  :-\. I think this should be clarified...but it's just an opinion, of course.

Thank you again.
