Storming permanent fortifications

the section on storming fortifications (p. 42) states that:

- foot assaulting permanent fortifications 'are assumed to escalade'

- Mounted troops cannot assault PF

tactical factors (p. 37) are:

- '+3 if....manning fortifications....when in front edge contact across a PF parapet....'

- '+1 if on a PF wall walk in close combat with enemy who are escalading.......'

so when does the +1 or +3 factor apply when attacked in PF ? or is it cumulative ?

I would say that it is indeed cumulative, when foot are defending a wall walk against foot who are assaulting (=escalading) a PF from the outside.

So it is a +4 against enemy foot climbing up/escalading from the outside, and a +1 against enemy foot climbing up stairs from the inside.

I agree - and you can get +2 for being in a tower and +1 for being uphill in a fortification too......there's a lot of factors on offer there!

This means that a Bd defending a Tower uphill gets +4 (Bd) +1 (defending wall walk) +3(manning fortifications) +2(in a tower) +1 (being uphill) = +11!!!!!

I don't think you get the +1 for a wall walk AND the +2 for a tower - by my reading the wall walk is only on a wall - not on a tower!!

But it's still a lot!

Make it a Bd(S) general, and it gets a bit intimidating.. ;-)
