Those of us in the UK are still looking for an English version ;D

In fairness - if you actually try and write some of this stuff it is very difficult. a number of times in the past I have tried to rewrite some of Phil's words - only to find my version was an even bigger mess, more spurious and simply crap.

There is a gaming club out there that posted an unofficial clearer explanation of the rules for DBA(http://www.wadbag.com/DBAGuide/), so it can be done...I sure wish it would for DBMM. The game looks fun - from what I can tell...

Who knows, maybe I'll use the DBA version and use it as a guide for writing one conforming to the DBMM rules.

I promised to write a plain english version, and I even did the first 20 pages or so during the drafting period and sent it to Phil. His response was 'I prefer my version'.

I still have to scan a copy so I can re-write it for my own use.

Hi all of you. I'm planning the translation of DBMM rules from Jan 11 2007 word document into Spanish. Hard work to do, as Phil used a complex speech and the time I can spend is limited. Anyway, I hope to have this work done in some months (how many? no idea by the moment).

Regards.

Note that there are significant differences between the latest on-line version and the published version.

Yes, I know. I took the word document to keep the aspect but the translation is based in my copy of the published rulebook.

Just curiosity...

Is there any official translation of DBMM into other languages (Italian, French, German, Spanish...)?

I think this should be a very good way to increase the number of players worldwide.

I don't think there is. As far as I know, European players are playing in English.

Makes us English speakers look weak...!

And...ehem...does Phil know that FoG (I hope I'll not be banned for writing this name  ;D) has been translated into 4 languages AFAIK?  :(

how much did they pay?

I'm sure it's easier to translate them - they're very simple language - but then they need 168 pages of rules and apendices, and looking through them to find a rule is a right pain in the posterior - rules that are needed at one point are often in a completely different part of the book, and a great deal of what is in the book is superfluous padding - commentary - wasted space IMO.

DBMM could be better presented, but it's bucketloads more user-friendly than FoG IMO - FoG is a dog of a book - it is a con job - a victory of presentation over content.

Hi,

currently we (two friends and I) are translating DBMM into German. Initially we had Phil's OK. We also asked for an official OK from Caliver since they are holding the copyrights. I have sent them several emails and asked for permission - but haven't got any response so far.

It is sad that FoG seems to be more successful even though the German version is not available yet (but it is planned to be issued in Spring 09). Many players are still waiting for a German version while others have given up already and turned to FoG ...

I'd suggest keep translating and present them with a finished copy - translating is fine - it's only publication that's a problem!

All translations of DBM were done by "locals" and not as any kind of programme by Phil.
