Online Survey For DBMM - Help Write Phil's Report Card
« on: July 29, 2009, 12:12:02 PM »
After a lot of play testing DBMM was released two and a half years ago in March 2007. Version 1.1 has now been promised towards the end of 2009. This seems a good time to assess the factors behind the success of DBMM as well as the things you like and those you hate.

The survey will run for two weeks until mid August. It contains 20 questions spread over four pages:

* Why you play DBMM and how often.
* What you think about the rule book.
* Playing the game.
* Overall impressions.

http://www.kwiksurveys.com/online-survey.php?surveyID=NODIL_cbd485b5

Please allow at least 5 minutes to complete the survey as all questions are compulsory. This is to prevent people skewing the results by selecting the questions they answer. You may return to the survey and amend your answers but you will only be able to take the survey once.

Headline results will be posted at http://vexillia.blogspot.com/ towards the end of August with the full results available as a free pdf download. Announcements will also be made on the Yahoo! DBMMlist.

As has been mentioned on the list, this needs "N/A" or similar options for most or even all of the answers as it will not let you leave something unanswered even if you have no opinion

In my case the stumbling block was which book do you prefer - well I have no preference, but the survey cannot be completed unless I pick 1 and only 1 favourtie book.

On Wednesday, 29th Jul I launched an online survey seeking player's opinions on DBMM because:

"After a lot of play testing DBMM was released two and a half years ago in March 2007. Version 1.1 has now been promised towards the end of 2009. This seems a good time to assess the factors behind the success of DBMM as well as the things you like and those you hate."

So far the response has been excellent and over one hundred players have taken part.

I'll be making the raw results public in a week as well as doing a bit of digging in the data for some more complex trends towards the end of the month.  There's a taster of what to expect online at:

http://tinyurl.com/nuvm29

The survey has 7 days left to run so if you'd like to take part and have 5 minutes to spare follow this link:

Just an idea: could we extract the top 20 wishes for 1.1 and ask for peoples priorities on the forum? Just to get a more generic view aside all the discussions

Not quite sure what you mean here.   ???

In any event there are few rule specific wishes in the free text responses to the "I wish" question and so no strong themes.  They'll be public at the weekend and you're more than welcome to analyse them and produce a list for discussion here.

I've already set up a classification system for the "I wish" question based around the strong themes.  There are lot of wishes about the clarity of the rules etc and for more local opponents.  As this analysis requires me to read, understand and classify all the free text entries it's towards the end of my lists of things to do with the data.

Arnim,

I think if we know why people who used to play DBM are now playing something else we already have many important items for your suggested list. Some are obvious (in Germany) such as the language of the rules or the seemingly complexity of the grading-factors.

@vexilla: Your survey is excellent and I am really looking forward to the results.

Why not extend it for a few days so that BRITCON players can account anything they discover during the comp that affects their opinions?

Hi Peeps

The survey closed on Sunday.  There were 128 responses so there's a good data set available. Thanks to everyone who took the time to complete the survey.

As promised I've made the results of the online survey public.  You should be able to browse them at - http://www.kwiksurveys.com/results-overview.php?surveyID=NODIL_cbd485b5&mode=4.

I'll be looking at the data over the next week or so.  I've already spotted some interesting trends.  The first part has been posted on my blog - http://tinyurl.com/oljctq.

Hi Peeps

I've just posted the fourth and final part of my look at the survey results.
The final part is worth reading for the Girls Aloud wish alone.

http://tinyurl.com/oljctq - Part 1: Basic findings
http://tinyurl.com/pkdm2h - Part 2: The rule book
http://tinyurl.com/lommag - Part 3: Playing the game
http://tinyurl.com/lhcdnt - Part 4: Issue & wishes

I'm going to take a break from this for week or two and play a couple of games.

After that I think I'll write about what I think the survey means and ponder on
what I would do differently if I were to run another survey.

Thanks once again to everyone who took part.
