We meet every Thursday evening, with a range of games played. There are probably 20-30 DBx players at the club, with most trying out DBMM at the moment. 18 people are taking part in our Republicon competition, which is the first massed use of DBMM at the club. This is a 4 round club night competition involving armies and enemies of Republican Rome.

We also have a fairly active Yahoogroups email list, which is where we organise most games.

If you want a break from DBx, other games played on Thursday nights include Flames of War, Full Thrust, Aeronef, DBSA, Warhammer in its various guises, and quite a few boardgames.

So if you're in town for some reason, come along and have a chat, or bring your figures for a game.

The club also runs Cancon every year, which is probably the largest wargames convention in the Southern hemisphere.

Hi there CGSoc, When are the Cancon '07 results going up on your site?
How are your Ancient Gamers finding 'MM'?

Probably never. I don't really know why, but Cancon results don't normally get published on the CGS site. Perhaps the Cancon DBM competition is officially a SAAW event run in conjunction with Cancon, rather than a Cancon event. Or something like that. The results usually go up on the SAAW web-site, though.

- A lot of swearing at the rules;

- A belief that Romans are overly favoured by the rules;

- Acceptance that there's a good game hidden in the rules, and one that's better than DBM 3.1;

- People like the Brilliant and Inert generals, the stratagems, Morale Equivalents, movement in metric, and a few of the other rules and concepts;

- They dislike the complexity of the combat system and the lack of cross-referencing within the rules;

- I think a few are disappointed that the rules have been sent to the printers, as this prevents a few more points from being addressed.

We're giving the a good hard workout, which I think they haven't had for a while, and if you're on the DBMM list, you'll see that after a few games each Thursday night, we're coming up with a few questions. The key thing is that a lot of people are willing to give DBMM a real chance.

Thanks for the Rules review, sounds like a few beers required after each game !!
Pleasing to see that the Rules are an improvement to 3.1 although maybe harder to wade through.
