Early Tang at the ITC 2015
« on: March 10, 2015, 11:40:03 AM »
Hi guys,
here is my report from the Mailand ITC 2015. The Competition doesn´t start well in my opinion, because i send a valid but wrong army list to Lorenzo... Yes, i have tried out serval combinations of an Early T´ang army for pool III. But i was in a little trouble and so i send one of my first drafts to Lorenzo and not my final choice :( But at the end of the tournament i consider: the army composition works well and i was happy :D

1. Game against Herbert Wong with Sui Chinese

Sui- Chinese Cmd-Structure

I.
1 reg Kn(X) Sub General
20 Hd(O)
4 reg Sp(I)
2 reg Bx(x)
4 reg Ps(O)
2 reg Art(O)

2.
1 reg Kn(x) Sub General
4 reg Kn(x)
4 reg Lh(S)
14 Hd(O)
2 Ps(O)

III.
1 reg Cv(S) C-in-C
16 Hd(O)
4 reg Kn(F)
3 reg Cv(S)
2 reg Cv(O)
2 reg LH(F)

IV. Baggage

I invaded the Sui kingdom in winter. Herbert must deploy first and he suffers from dazzle. So he decided to build a mountain fortress:

I decided to attack with my complete army on this left flank. Herbert retreat his main troops and i was unable to attack the important troops. so after some minor losses through my bowfire and some cav-attacks on retreating troops time was called. A 13 : 12 for the T´ang.

2. Game against Enzo Megale with Sassanid Persian

cmd-Structure

I.
1 C-in-C Irr Kn(X)
6 irr Kn (x)
3 irr Lh(F)

II.
1 irr Cv(S) Sub-General
6 irr Cv(S)
3 irr Lh(F)

III.
1 irr Cv(S) Sub General
8 irr Cv(S)
2 irr Lh(F)

IV.
1 irr Lh(S) Ally Gen
14 irr Lh (S)

V.  6 Bg(F)

Enzo invaded my kingdom in winter. I have to deploy first. No weather effects.

The Terrain was all on my side. BUA, two rough hills in the middle and a marsh on my right. My plan was to retreat my LH-command from the right side behind my cav-command. But hampered by low pips the plan failed and Enzo catch the LH command in front of the march with his ally. To make my doom secure he support his ally with his II. Cv(S) command. In the meanwhile i distract him with my cav-command, so that he moved his Kn(X) and III. command to my left flank. As he moved of, i turn my cav command and supported the fight at the right. Enzo managed to break my LH command, but while doing this he produce a lot of havoc between his troops. I used the bow(x) and my cav(s) commands to break in revenge his LH and Cav - command. With my last cav-attack i kill one of his returning Kn(X). Enought to break his army: 21 : 4 for the T´ang.

3. Game against Ivano Taldo with Nikephorian Byzantine

cmd- Structure:

I.
1 reg Cv(S) Sub General
6 reg Cv(S)
4 reg Lh(S)

II.
1 reg Cv(S) Sub General
6 reg Bw(X)
2 irr Ax(S)

III.
1 reg Cv(S) C-in-C
2 reg Kn(x) db
5 reg Cv(S)
2 reg Bd(x)
2 reg Art(O) on cart
2 reg Ps(S)
2 reg Ps(O)

IV. Baggage

Ivano invaded the T´ang Imperium in the summer a 4 o ´Clock in the morning. I must deploy first, but i have to move second, because we have mist  ;( . So maximum move distance 200p, line of sight is 160p.

I deploy my Bw(X) on a GH and put all my mounted troops on the left to turn the battlefield. Ivano played very cautious. I moved very agressivly forward with my whole mounted force. In the first 3 combat rounds I lose 3 Cv(S) to 1 enemy LH(S) and  a Kn(F) was shot down by the enemy Bw(X)  <X My Cv(S) command was close to be dishartend... But I keep on fighting hard and the luck came back to me. In one round I managed to break the enemy baggage, with the ME Transmission the I. command break and with the - 4 ME Transmission the C-in-C command break, suffered some losses before to my Bw(X). A nice 25 : 0 victory for my chinese army.

4. Game against Lawrence Greaves with Khazar.

I.
1 reg Kn(F) Sub General
5 reg Cv(S)
5 reg Cv(O)
2 irr Ax(O)

II.
1 reg Kn(F) C-in-C
5 irr Kn(F)
4 irr Cv(O)
2 irr Lh(F)
2 reg Art(O)
1 reg Art(I)

III.
1 reg Kn(F) Sub Gen
3 reg Cv(S)
3 reg Cv(O)
10 irr Ax (O)
2 irr  Ps(O)

IV. Baggage with Bg(S)

Lawrence is a very skillfull player and I learned a lot in this game  e. g. third party shooting, how to fight with artillery, ... :) This time i invaded the Khazar empire in the summer with no weather effects.

The terrain was importend in this game. You see at the bottom and at the top a DH an in the middle a BF. Lawrence moved his artillery very agressivly forward and put so a lot of pressure on my Bw(x). I tried to avoid the heavy art-shooting and turn the battlefield (see the Picture). There was a lot of manouvering in the game and some minor combats. So at the end of the time nobody have lost more then 10 % of this army. 13 : 12 for the T´ang.

Overall the T´ang earned 72 Points. This was enough for the bronze medal in the Dark Age pool :D.

Thanks to Lorenzo for the good event-Organisation and the great dinner at saturday evening!

I know I am being "that guy" but I have to point it out.  I just bought the DbMM book 3 today and I have been analyzing the Chinese armies.  What can I say?  I like ancient Chinese history.

Your 1st command has Reg Bd (X) x2.  They should be Reg Bw (X).  Are those your crossbow specialists?

...sighs.... I am "that guy".
