Wintercon 2015 DBMM placings and wrap
« on: July 20, 2015, 02:19:00 PM »
Well you have heard some of the action from Doug Melville's Yahoo list reports and blog.  Hopefully we will see more reports and photos being posted sometime soon.

We had a small but bellicose group of tough armies run by good fighting players giving a very enjoyable competition.

First a big thanks to our sponsors:
Essex Miniatures Australia
Unreal Estates - very handy printed terrain sheets - see review and ordering details at http://www.matakishi.com/printedsceneryreview.htm
Next a big thanks to our list checker John Godsall for another stirling effort.
Then thanks to the tireless Canberra Games Society Cancon/Wintercon organisers.
Finally a big thanks to the players for the excellent spirit, and for travelling a long or short distance - it can sometimes be just as hard either way - to make it out to play.

Final placings (noting that a bye is scored as a straight 12 points, and we had some players who could only make it for one or two games):
1. Greg Russell - Med German 1255AD - 71 points
2. Doug Melville - Middle Frankish  590AD - 70 points (incl 1 bye score)
3. Dave Quilty - Later Crusader 1150AD - 62 points
4. Lawrence Greaves - Sicilian 1245AD - 58 points
5. Zac Russell - Pictish 365AD - 57 points
6. Nick Rogers - Romanian Franks 1214AD - 51 points (incl 2 bye scores)
7. Michael Stone - Norman 900AD - 46 points (incl 1 bye score)
8. Gary Planchetta - Feudal French 1200AD - 45 points
9. Tim Montgomery - Med German 1250AD - 40 points (incl 3 bye scores)
10. Dave Turner - Early Slav - 36 points (incl 3 bye scores)
11. John Garvey - Dublin Viking 1000AD - 19 points

We will get these logged with the DBMM.org.uk website shortly.

We have good indications that we will have a solid turnout for DBMM at Cancon in late January 2016 - with any luck we will get in the vicinity of 20 players at least, which is pretty good these days
 - so dust off those armies and re-read the rules if you have been thinking of giving DBMM a go or getting back into it!  Cancon will be a 400 pt (+ 10 pts only used for stratagems) open competition.

We are also working up a themed list of armies for Wintercon 2016 already - looking at something Book1 and 2ish - will also be 400pts - keep an eye out for updates on the final theme/armies list soon, so you can get painting early.

(note - all 15mm scale)

To any overseas or interstate players - we would love to see you for Cancon, Wintercon, or of course some casual games.  There are usually at least a couple of DBMM games going in Canberra each week at the club on Thursday nights, and other opportunities to play outside that.  Plenty of armies knocking around town as well if you don't happen to travel with one of your own.  So, if you are thinking of an Australian holiday, feel free to get in touch…

And if you come in late January you can enjoy the delights of our 30-40 degree summer days - alternatively you could always join Lawrence at the campground to brave our -5 degree frosty nights over the Wintercon weekend in July!!!!

cheers Michael
