Group in a TZ conforms
« on: December 14, 2015, 08:07:55 PM »
Hi

I have a column of two Cavalry.
My opponent puts a LH element to the side of the column such that both cavalry elements are in the TZ.

Can I move the column 1mm straight ahead and then adjust the column to line up with the LH for just one Pip?

Or do I have to move the rear element backwards out of the way and then line up the front element with the LH?

In principle you can do it with the group, but I suspect you might have to move more than 1 mm and wheel towards the TZing element in order for an 80p shift and pivot to be enough for both elements to line up.

So if I put the cavalry in the flank really close and not too near to the first threatzoned elements front corners.... than the rear element will never get out of the way as the front one can never use the 80p slide to line up? Or are they just like two helicopters who move up, turn the whole group and land again?

I think they would be able to wheel as a column (probably more than 90 degrees would be needed) and advance to a position from which it would be possible to EMTLU as a pair, though it might mean they end up as a column with a bend in it. The front element would qualify as lining up as soon as possible with the TZing element (2nd TZ bullet) and the second one would be following the one in front (6th TZ bullet).

However, sometimes a better move would be to put one element into close combat with the TZing element, causing the other to be shifted  out of the way (possibly out of the TZ).
