On Bw (X)
« on: December 08, 2007, 11:01:05 AM »
Hi,

On page 7 is read that Bw (X): "If double based with bows, these provide rear support". Does ot mean Bw support only or Bw/Sp support depending on the situation (distant combat/close combat)?

Thank you.

Hi Landmeister,

If Bw(X) is double based with another Bw, then the rear Bw can shoot in support of the front rank bow.

Also, the rear rank bow provides the front rank a +1 factor in close combat in an enemy bound. Bw(X) is treated as Sp in close combat.

In DBMM, there is a big difference between "aiding" and "support". If you look carefully you will notice that for Shooting (Distance Combat?), rear ranks "aid" the front. But in Close Combat they give "support".

I think we should try and use the same language, otherwise people may think when you say "Bw support" you are only talking about Close Combat, not Distance Combat.

Hope this helps,
JohnG

Hi Landmeister,

Yes, it is clear reading the rules.

Also, the rear rank bow provides the front rank a +1 factor in close combat in an enemy bound. Bw(X) is treated as Sp in close combat.

This is not so clear. Bw CAN'T provide rear support to Sp in close combat, so no +1 is applicable. They fight in close combat counting as a single Sp element.  :o

In DBMM, there is a big difference between "aiding" and "support". If you look carefully you will notice that for Shooting (Distance Combat?), rear ranks "aid" the front. But in Close Combat they give "support".

True. But in close combat a rear rank of Bw can support Bd, not Sp.

Thank you again, John.

Hi,

The 5th dot point for the "-1 in enemy bound only" for Close Combat Rear support specifically mentions rear rank Bw(O) and (S) supporting double-based Bw(X) "counting as Spears". Now a lot of people complain about Phil's writing, but this one is pretty clear  ;). See p36.

So yes, the rear rank counts +1 in an enemy bound.....

G^is,
