Flying forth corner

Dear all,

Is the "flying forth corner" rule applicable in DBMM (see diagram 1 in DBM)? I can't see any reference in DBMM. If so, this shortens all moves opening columns...a lot!  :-\

Opinions?

This was noticed as an MIA rule from DBM before the DBMM comp at Britcon. For the Britcon tournament we played as per DBM but there was nothing certain to base this on.

The DBMM comentary seems to allow an unlimited amount of jinking to avoid obstacles as it states that a single element can deviate and that as long as it ends within it's move distance of where it started then it's fine. There is a second point listed as a "suggested playing convention" that states that at no point should an element be more than it's move away from where it started.

My feeling is that this clarification may well be open to some serious exploitation.

Yup, but its less open to exploitation than the word of the rules which appears to allow you to quantum tunnel through lines of troops.

Hopefully the commentary will provoke some thought from Phil.

True but will Phil see the positive and fix the problem or just go off in a huff?

Who knows? I am going to try and see if I can show him the problem at Ladywood 2 and just write down what he says there and put it in the Commentary.
