Quick sponno question
« on: August 27, 2008, 09:18:33 PM »
Dear all,

This happened to me in my last game. An enemy Wb was in close combat against my Db. Another enemy Wb moves straigh ahead and entered into my TZ, then shifted sideways to line up with my Ax and then finished its sponno once touched its rear's friend. This way the Wb got its rear support against my Bd  >:(. I know it's a legal move, but isn't it a way to look for rear support? Now sponnos can only look for overlaps, not rear supports.  ???

Thank you

Troops making spontaneous advance do not get to ignore TZ's, and the spono move "ends when it contacts friends it cannot pass thought" - after than it can still use the 80p to line up.

So as long as the directions of the advance were correct then the move seems legal to me

You are corect that the direction fo the advance cannot be altered to aim for a rear support - but getting into rear support will often be the result of a move straight ahead or towards the nearest enemy.

And why not lining up before contacting friends? I find no rules compelling to lining up after contacting friends. You can do it immediatly after you've reached the enemy TZ, because a TZ-ed element must line up too. It's legal too, but isn't it cheesy?  :-\

Thank you

It doesn't matter when you line up with hte TZ - before or after contacting friends - the end result is going to be exactly the same - the element will be in position to give rear rank support.

I see nothing at all cheesy about it.
