Arrival Surprise

p41, para 3, BP 2 describes fleeing from Flank Marchers or a Delayed Arrival whereas the latter is omitted from the paragraph "Arrival Surprise" at the foot of p31. Should troops flee from an enemy delayed arrival?

Cheers,
Ivan.

Hi Ivan

I thought I would look into this some more since our discussion on this today and it appears this was picked up in the commentary on page 36.  It states that page 31 takes precedence given it states what you flee from and essentially page 41 should be ignored.  I see John mentioned this in his commentary on the games at Battlecry and I too am a little surprised that you don't flee from a delayed command (although it sounds like I am a lot more surprised than the troops on the table!).

Note to self *must re-read commentary*....:)

I think your probably going to be more afraid of an enemy suddenly appearing on one of your flanks than them suddenly appearing on their own rear edge!!!

If they are on your rear edge, you probably don't flee from them because you assume they are reinforcements. Its only when they attack you that you realise they are on the other side :D

As delayed commands only appear on your own rear edge then I suppose the rational for them not making troops flee when they arrive on table is that perhaps the fact that the opposing army could never be sure that you dont have reinforcements force marching up behind the main force and therefore when extra troops appear behind the enemy lines then your not going to be that surprised.

On a similar theme - check what happens when your flank march rolls a 6 and elects to come on the rear edge

I have a vague recollection of something way back on the yahoolist during development about troops looking forward most of the time and being oblivious to things behind (not having eyes in the back of their heads i suppose) - and being focussed on the threat to the front - we have some degree of peripheral vision to the side.

Kind Regards
