Boats being shot at.
« on: April 06, 2009, 11:39:56 AM »
During my last game at the Challenge against Tony Dennis' Normans, he sailed a couple of boats down a large river. Some of my Roman archers fired on him and scored more, and then scored double.
What effect does scoring more have, and what effect does scoring double?

Recoil.

Flee.

Why did you have to ask? It's in the rule book.

I could not find out what happens if they lose but are not doubled.
Also, what happens when boats are fired on if they are in contact with land?

Remember the default/basic/common combat results are now at the top of the list - the list for each troop type is only the exceptions to the default ones.

I don't think being in contact with land has any effect, unless it prevents recoil. If the boats' troops are disembarked the boats fight with lower factors.

My apologies Adrian I had not realised I'd been doubled.  :-[ I forget the scores now, did you account for Bts(S) +1 against shooting?

If doubled it would have been a flee result, rather than a recoil.

No worries, you recoiled the first time I shot at the boat and then you fled the second time I shot up the same boat, so we did things right. But, I cannot find anything specific about what happens when you fire at a boat that is touching land, combat outcomes are shown for close combat but does the same apply to when they are shot at?

Hi

Beached naval elements die very quickly, even if just shot at....

P39 "more than half.....
naval.....Destroyed if in contact with land....

less than half....
Otherwise destroyed unless one of the exceptions below applies.." [which they do not.]

This is backed up by P10 2nd para
"..... vunerable to shooting due to....."
