False reinforcements

When using the stratagem for false reinforcements what do you have to pay? Only the points for the Hd(O) and the stratagem is for free? Or are there any addtitional costs?

Good questions. I have no idea.

I've never heard of this particular stratagem being used, and I don't think it's listed in any army in Books 2 or 3. I'd be almost willing to bet there are no armies in Book 1 which use it either. I'd be interested to know whether any armies in Book 4 will get it.

In other words, I have a sneaky suspicion it's never going to appear.

Not got the lists with me, but don't Mu-jung Hsien Pi in Book 2 get this ? Women riding oxen as the false reinforcements stratagem ??

Yes, it's the women on the oxen story from book 2 list 61. But has anybody got an idea how much you have to pay for?

"Cost as specified by the army list" - if no cost is specified then it has no cost.

This needs to be raised with Phil, as it's presumably an Errata issue.  It seems unlikely that Phil intended the Stratagem to be 0AP.

Why not?  there are others that are 0AP, and each time the topic has been specifically raised on the Yahoogroup Phil has given an obtuse reply but never that there was intended to be a cost.

If you count the cost of the iHdO per list 2.61 then it essentially costs 1 AP/element to use this stratagem.  The Hd are not deployed until seen by the enemy or the stratagem is invoked.  It does seem lame you could use a single element of HdO at a cost of 1 AP on a hill to your rear to induce a break in your opponent.....just my opinion!

However, the probability of pulling this off would require a fortunate set of circumstances : the hill is in the correct position, there are no enemy elements within 400 paces of the deployed Hd and no enemy can see behind the hill - although I suppose if the hill was placed in a rear corner then it is entirely feasible.......

• the list says o-8 Hardes MAY be taken. If I want to pull off this stratagem, may I do it with one Horde? Do I need 8? Or can I take 8 but only use 1 to do the stratagem?
• Assume you need to take all 8 Hordes, I am ok to pay 8 AP for the Hordes. But I assumed I would need to pay another 8 AP (so 1AP per Element) for the Stratagem (which is sort of a special ambush).

If you check out the thread I think the general consensus was the cost is specified in the list and that it doesn't cost anything extra (for the quoted list) over and above the elements needed to use the stratagem.  Also, nowhere does it state you must take all 8 elements so presumably you could do it with just the one element.
