Random Armies ?
« on: January 30, 2010, 10:48:39 AM »
Just had an idea last night....rather than carefully crafting army lists, could randomly generate based on minimum/maximum of each type. After all a general would hardly ever have a chance of carefully crafting his army, if my usual armies are a typical case, to maximize the number of S units and minimize the number of I units but would generally have to make do with what he had.

It would be fairly easy to do this in a spreadsheet...

I like this idea - as said, generals often didn't have a wide choice of what troops to take to battle - certainly not as extensive as in the Army Lists.

Several rules systems in the past had this.

The major problems were :

1/   It requires extra figures that may never be fielded.

2/   Army lists are predominantly to provided balanced armies (for competitions etc..) that are reasonably historical.

I always presumed that most players have experimented with variable lists, campaigns etc...
