Exaggerating army size stratagem
« on: April 30, 2011, 08:21:42 PM »
I understand the overall rule, but I would appreciate some help on this sentence:

"If real elements are placed in such a position that the enemy incorrectly assumes them to be fake, this simulates the contrary ploy of using less standards, tents, trumpet calls or fires than normal to give the impression that the army is smaller than it is."

How can real elements be placed in such a position? If I add two ranks of fake elements, all of them will look like the real ones beyond 400p. And all fakes will be removed once within 400p. I don't understand how a player can incorrectly assume them to be fake.

Could someone help, please?

Thank you in advance

Hi

Example with a hoplite army:

Left flank has spears two deep.
The rear rank is fake.

The right flank has spear 4 deep.
They are all real.

If you thought the opponent was using exagerrated army size, which elements would you assume to be fake?
