Halting Impetuous Troop Types

Hi,

I understand there has been a discussion on the halting of Impetuous Troops Types - but I can't find it (done a search on halt, halting, etc) may just be me going blind - but would be grateful if someone could point me to the item.

I like to use lots of Impetuous Troops Types (typically LH(S)) and enjoy being able to only pay 2 PIPs to hold a Group (on the rare occasion I do :) ).

However, being able hold Impetuous Troup Types from doing a Spontaneous move seems wrong by the rules.

Confusion reigns here for me due to the wording of the 2nd para of HALTS. However, everything prior to this PARA involving halts (p.27, 1 PIP expenditure item & P.31 HALTS, 1st dot) specifies ELEMENTS specifically where other rule items specify ELEMENTS OR GROUPS.

I therefore read it that the GROUP part of the 2nd para refers ONLY to troops that can become SPONTANEOUS due to events but are NOT normally impetuous troop types

In addition, it seems to me that (and the items I have read here on the original thoughts about Impetuous troop types) they should be difficult to control; so, once you start moving them, realistically you have to keep moving them if you want to keep them under control; and that HALTs of Groups for only 2 PIPs is too easy.

As I say I would be interested in reading the ideas around the apparent consensus that groups of, or including, impetuous troops types can be HALTED as a group.

I'm pretty sure its only 1 pip to halt a group of IrrLhS.
cheers

Gibby,

thanks for the reply.

I think I may have over complicated my actual question in being to detailed.

It's not a question on number of PIPs (per se) for a given Troop Type to hold them; my question was around whether Impetuous Type Troops can be held as a group at all. A strict reading on the rules (as I read them) suggests not. Either:
- Impetuous troop types make a MOVE individually OR as a GROUP
or
- they must be held ELEMENT by ELEMENT (i.e realistically you don't hold impetuous troops!)

Hi

Impetuous groups can be halted:

P27
1 Pip is expended... each halt by...a group including impetuous troops

P30
Elements that are impetuous from making spontaneous advances

The P30 quote is easy to misunderstand.
If you do not hold the group, the impetuous elements will individually advance as elements.
If the rule said "groups that impetuous from..."  people would argue that the groups could make spono makes as groups and that a group that included impetuous and non-impetuous elements need not be held.
